Alexandra Kahrer

Austrian cellist Alexandra Kahrer recently won third prize, the audience prize, and the Czech Music Fund Award for the best interpretation of a contemporary work at the prestigious Prague Spring International Music Competition 2025. In 2024, she won first prize at the International Grunewald Music Competition in Berlin. Alexandra has performed in major concert halls such as the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Weimarhalle, the Brno Philharmonic, the Casals Forum Kronberg, and the Rudolfinum Prague.
As a soloist, she has performed with orchestras such as the Kremerata Baltica, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim, the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wranitzky Chamber Orchestra Prague, the Orchestr Czech Virtuosi, and the Enigma Classica Orchestra.
She has been a guest at festivals/concert series such as the Allegro Vivo Festival, the Kronberg Festival, the AlpenKlassik Festival, the Odeon Concerts Munich, the WestfalenClassics Festival, the Starnberg&Seefeld Music Days, the Vienna Philharmonic's Musikforum Trenta, etc.
She is currently studying for her concert exam with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the University of Music in Weimar. Prior to that, she studied with Wen-Sinn Yang in Munich and Robert Nagy in Vienna.
She attended master classes with W. Böttcher, J.P. Maintz, D. Geringas, F. Helmerson, M. Hornung, G. Rivinius, I. Várdai, L. Fenyö, S. Klinger, P. Bruns, and T. Svane. She is also a prize winner at the David Popper Competition, the Leoš Janáček Competition, the Gustav Mahler Prize Competition, the International Cello Competition in Liezen, and the German Musical Instruments Fund Competition in Hamburg. Alexandra has won several prizes at the International Festival “Allegro Vivo” and also received the “Johann Krahuletz Prize.” She also won the Musica Juventutis selection competition at the Vienna Konzerthaus.
Alexandra plays a cello by Giovanni Battista Rogeri, Brescia 1671, on loan from the German Music Foundation.
