Chamber Music Connects the World, junior

The US-American violist Joseph Skerik studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Yale School of Music. He won the third prize at the Oskar Nedbal Viola Competition 2022 and was a semifinalist at the Cecil Aronowitz Viola Competition 2021. Since 2023, he has been the violist of the Vega String Quartet at Emory University.

Previously, Joseph Skerik gained orchestral experience with ensembles including the Yale Philharmonia, Warren Philharmonic, New York String Orchestra Seminar, and Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he collaborated with artists such as Edward Aaron, Margaret Batjer, Andrew Shulman, Erin Keefe, Colin Carr, Ilya Kaler, and Ani Kavafian. Performances have taken him to events such as the Vivace Foundation Festival, Ravinia Steans Institute, Heifetz Hear and Now Series, Lake George Festival, Highlands/Cashiers Festival, and Aspen Music Festival. Additionally, he is the founder of the chamber music ensemble Viridian Strings.

Moreover, Joseph Skerik is committed to sharing his knowledge and passion for music through teaching. After serving as a teaching assistant at the Interlochen Viola Institute and as a junior faculty member at the Vivace Music Foundation, he is currently an Artist in Residence at Emory University.
