Yuri Bashmet in Kronberg

Cello Encyclopaedia Volume 7

Since his first visit to Kronberg in 1998, in connection with the first Viola Festival, Yuri Bashmet has maintained a close connection with Kronberg Academy. Once every two years he makes music with young musicians in Kronberg in Chamber Music Connects theWorld, he is a member of the Artistic Council of Kronberg Academy and he regularly gives masterclasses for the Young Soloists of Kronberg Academy Masters.
This film shows Yuri Bashmet first and foremost as a teacher ("Senior") with his young ensemble partners in Chamber Music Connects the World between 2000 and 2010. He talks about his formative influences and his objectives. We find out more when students and musical partners such as Gidon Kremer talk about him. The most enthralling of all is undoubtedly to watch his distinctive rehearsal work, which reveals so much about his approach to music.
The portrait concludes with two performances of chamber music works in Kronberg and archive footage of him as a soloist.

  • Yuri Bashmet: Living in the Centre
  • CMCW 2008 Johannes Brahms: Quintet Op 115
