Miriam Helms Ålien


Miriam Helms Ålien, who comes from Norway, started playing the violin at the age of six and made her debut as a soloist at the age of eight. She has studied at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, the Hanns Eichler School of Music in Berlin and the University of Music in Munich. She has participated in masterclasses with Ida Haendel, Renaud Capuçon, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Miriam Fried, Mauricio Fuks and Dora Schwarzberg. In 2010 she was named Norway’s Musician of the Year and in 2013 was awarded the Nordic Soloist Prize.

Miriam Helms Ålien has already performed with Norway’s renowned orchestras such as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Camerata and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra as well as with internationally recognised orchestras such as the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. The committed chamber musician has taken part in numerous festivals, including the Bergen International Festival, the Bad Kissingen International Music Festival, the Verbier Festival & Academy and Open Chamber Music at Prussia Cove.

Miriam Helms Ålien plays a Guadagnini violin from 1780 which is on loan to her by a private sponsor.

In 2009, 2011 and 2013 she took part in Kronberg Academy’s Violin Masterclasses and in 2012 in Chamber Music Connects the World. In the years 2017 and 2019 she participated in the Kronberg Academy Festival. Since October 2016 Miriam Helms Ålien studied at Kronberg Academy with Ana Chumachenco. Since 2018 she studied Viola with Tabea Zimmermann. These studies were funded by the Artmann/Rath Stipendium.
