Studies with Mihaela Martin

The violinist of Dutch-American origin began his studies with Li Lin at the San Francisco Conservatoire and later continued with Aaron Rosand at the Curtis Institute where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. He was also admitted to the Perlman Music Program of Itzhak Perlman.
As a result of his competition successes as a prizewinner at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2015 and of being awarded first prize at the 2014 International Menuhin Competition and second prize at the 2013 Montreal International Competition, he is in worldwide demand and takes part in numerous international festivals. 2017 he won the Avery Fisher Career Grant Award. Stephen Waarts has already performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the hr-symphony orchestra.
In 2015 and 2017 Stephen Waarts was an active participant in the Kronberg Academy Festival, during which he took masterclasses with Mihaela Martin and Christian Tetzlaff. In 2018 he took part in Chamber Music Connects the World. Since October 2016 he has been studying as at Kronberg Academy with Mihaela Martin. These studies are funded by the Bubmann/Rühland Stipendium.
