The Barrios Guitar Quartet is one of the most highly acclaimed ensembles in the classical guitar world. Thanks to theirBeschreibung: http://www.bgq.de/Data/Gif/unsicht.gif sensitive, dynamic and precise playing as well as their unadorned virtuosity, these musicians are setting new standards in their genre.

The ensemble is named after Agustín Barrios Mangoré, a Paraguayan composer and universal artist whose innovative works, full of poetic strength and exuberant virtuosity, unlocked previously undreamt-of expressive potential for the guitar. His visionary force is very much part of the Barrios Guitar Quartet concept.

The quartet has performed at many different festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival, Kurt Weill Festival Dessau, the Weilburger Schlosskonzerte and the Braga Guitar Festival in Portugal, as well as at guitar days in Aschaffenburg, Darmstadt, Neu Ötting, Friedberg and other venues. A variety of CD and radio recordings demonstrate the broad musical range of the ensemble. In 2016 and 2018, Hessische Rundfunk (Hesse Broadcasting) dedicated an hour-long show to each of its releases. A highlight in 2019 was the premiere of “Tarot”, a work composed for the quartet by renowned Welsh composer Stephen Goss.

The four musicians have won numerous prizes and accolades and are welcome guests at festivals both at home and abroad. The Barrios Guitar Quartet is a byword for repertoire that is outside the mainstream, and a comprehensive “toolkit” of instruments allows the players to open up entirely new tonal dimensions. Their unusual arrangements, full of finesse and imagination, delight both audiences and critics in equal measure.
