Kronberg Academy - 20th Anniversary Festival 2013

About the Cello Festival
  • First held in 1993
  • Every two years
  • Kronberg and Frankfurt
  • Patron: Marta Casals Istomin
  • Media partners: hr2 kultur, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Since 1993 Kronberg Academy's International Cello Festival has been drawing cellists to Kronberg from all over the world. It has made Kronberg one of the world's key venues for artists from a wide range of different cultural backgrounds who wish to engage in a musical dialogue and an exchange of views. "Kronberg is the world capital of the cello" was how Mstislav Rostropovich put it - and that is what it should remain, even if Kronberg Academy has meanwhile evolved from a cello academy to a strings academy with a major international standing. To celebrate Kronberg Academy's 20th anniversary, in October 2013 audiences will be invited to the first gathering of the best violinists, violists and cellists, which will take the form of a strings festival. Like the Cello Festival, Kronberg Academy's "Cello Plus Festival" will be the meeting place for world-famous virtuosos, up-and-coming young artists and music students from all corners of the globe and will present a whole week of solo, chamber music and orchestral concerts and public workshops. The programme will also include presentations by internationally acclaimed luthiers and social events that tie in with the theme of the Festival.
