International Pablo Casals Cello Competition 2000, 2004

The International Pablo Casals Cello Competition took place in 2000 and 2004 only.

At the request of Marta Casals Istomin, Pablo Casals' widow, Kronberg Academy assumed the task of organising the International Pablo Casals Cello Competition in 2000 and 2004.

The competition, which was designed in the spirit of Pablo Casals' musical and humanistic legacy, was intended to commemorate the invaluable life work of that great artist and world citizen and to implement the competition slogan - "Art and humanity are inseparable" - in a way of which he would have approved.

The central task of the competition was to discover and provide support for the outstanding cellists of the future. Selected jurors ensured a high degree of objectivity and saw themselves as the young participants' fellow-musicians and mentors. From the perspective of responsible promotion, the International Pablo Casals Cello Competition awarded prizes and scholarships and arranged international performance opportunities for the top prizewinners.
