Viola Festival 1998, 2003

The Viola Festival took place in 1998 and 2003 only.

  • 1998 and 2003
  • Venue: Kronberg

On the request and initiative of leading violists, in 1998 and 2003 Kronberg Academy presented a Viola Festival as a variation on the world-famous Cello Festival.

The involvement of Yuri Bashmet, Nobuko Imai, Kim Kashkashian and Tabea Zimmermann turned the uniquely designed festival into a summit meeting of the most significant viola protagonists. A notable highlight was the performance given by the 12 violists of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2003.

The juxtaposition of present and future stars and a special focus on the twentieth century repertoire resulted in an unusual concert programme, which shed particular light on the instrument's unstoppable solo career.
