Three world premieres during the Cello Festival and the Day of
Remembrance for Mstislav Rostropovich- transmitted by hr 2 Kultur
This year´s Cello Festival is being held in memory of the late Mstislav Rostropovich and focuses on his life's work in all concerts, lectures and workshops. Throughout the festival music can be heard that is associated with the maestro; some pieces were dedicated to him and others were composed or premiered by him.Three works that were dedicated to him will be world premieres: during the
memorial service on October 3rd at 2 pm in the Johanniskirche in Kronberg
Krzysztof Pendereckis will perform Agnus Dei from the Polish Requiem, with a
transcription for cello orchestra. On Friday October 5th at 10 pm in St. Peter und Paul Church (Kronberg) the Ensemble Cellisimo will perform Rodion Shchedrins "Na Pososhock - One for the road" for Cellosextett. „Silent Prayer" is the title of a work for Violine, Violoncello and String orchestra by Giya Kancheli. This is a piece Kancheli composed for the 80th birthday of Rostropovich and for the 60th birthday of Gidon Kremer. Gidon Kremer and Marie-Elisabeth Hecker will perform this piece on Sunday October 7th at 5 pm, in the first part of the final concert. All composers are present during the world premier of their music. On Sunday, October 6th at 2:15pm at the Stadthalle Kronberg the three composers talk about their work and give an account of their relationship to Mstislav Rostropovich.
The network hr2 Kultur is the Media partner of the Kronberg Academy and accompanies this festival „In remembrance - celebrating Slava" and the Day of Remembrance. The Memorial concert on October 3rd at 7 pm at the Alte Oper Frankfurt is being transmitted live by Hessischer Rundfunk - hr2 Kultur and by the Bayerische Rundfunk.
All concerts of the Cello Festivals are being recorded by the Hessischen Rundfunk and with hr2 Kultur the Kronberg Academy intends to document the entire festival and produce a Rostropovich-Remembrance-CD-Box.
